210 g – How Light Is the Shimano Stella FK 2500?
According to Shimano, the Stella FK 2500 weighs 210 g. That keeps it compact for a 2500-size premium fixed-spool reel and lets you pair it with many light to medium spinning rods.
On the water, what really counts is the balance of your whole setup – rod, reel, line and lure. That’s exactly where the low reel weight pays off.
9 kg Max Drag – What’s Behind the Stella FK 2500?
Shimano rates the Stella 2500 FK at a maximum drag of 9 kg. That’s a large technical reserve for a compact 2500-size fixed-spool reel.
In practice, the drag is usually set well below its maximum. Line strength, leader, hook, rod action and target species decide how much drag actually makes sense.
The Shimano Technologies Inside the Stella FK 2500
The Stella FK brings together several Shimano technologies covering gearing, power transmission, line lay and drag. It’s exactly this combination that defines the reel’s premium status.
InfinityLoop – Precise Line Lay
InfinityLoop refers to an extremely slow spool oscillation. It lays the line on the spool very evenly and reduces friction as line comes off the spool.
InfinityDrive – Easier Winding Under Load
InfinityDrive is designed to reduce sliding resistance on the main shaft. Shimano developed the technology with the aim of making winding easier and power transmission more efficient, even under load.
InfinityXross – Spreading the Load Across the Gears
With InfinityXross, the contact between the drive gear and the pinion gear has been optimised. The load is spread over a larger tooth surface, which is designed to increase gear durability.
Duracross & Rigid Support Drag – Drag Under Control
The Duracross drag washers combine smooth, even line release with improved abrasion resistance. Rigid Support Drag also stabilises the spool on the shaft – even at low drag settings.
Anti-Twist Fin – Extra Line Control
The Anti-Twist Fin sits close to the line roller. It reduces slack line and is designed to stop line from dropping below the spool or wrapping awkwardly around it when there’s line twist.

What Kind of Predator Fishing Is the Shimano Stella FK 2500 Best For?
The 2500 size is ideal for many light to medium lure fishing applications. With a weight of 210 g, 9 kg max drag and 75 cm line retrieve, the reel can be paired with a whole range of spinning rods and lures.
Whether it suits your perch, zander or trout fishing, or lighter pike fishing, depends on your whole setup. Rod class, line, lure weight, venue and fishing method matter more than reel size alone.
You’ll find more on reels, rods, lures and methods in our Predator Fishing section.
Shimano Stella FK 2500 or 2500 HG – What’s the Difference?
The standard Stella 2500 FK has a 5.1:1 gear ratio, retrieves 75 cm of line per handle turn and uses a 50 mm handle. The Stella 2500 HG FK runs at 5.8:1, with 86 cm line retrieve and a 55 mm handle.
Weight and max drag are the same on both versions: 210 g and 9 kg. The standard version has a lower gear ratio, while the HG version picks up more line per handle turn.
Which gear ratio suits you best mainly depends on how you work your lures, the retrieve speed you want and personal preference.
