A carp does not find a boilie through scent alone. First it detects dissolved attractants through its sense of smell, then it checks the bait at close range and decides in fractions of a second, inside the mouth, whether to swallow or eject it. That is why a good boilie has to work on three levels: attractant for long-range pull, feeding stimulant for feeding motivation and palatability trigger for final acceptance.
